Export

Definition

Export is the process of rendering and saving a completed project or sequence from a non-linear editing system or other post-production application into a specific file format for delivery, distribution, or further processing. The export settings (codec, resolution, frame rate, bit rate, color space, audio format) must be carefully specified to meet the requirements of the intended destination. Modern NLE systems typically offer a wide range of export presets for common delivery formats, as well as the ability to create custom export settings.

Contextual Usage

The editor prepares the final deliverables: "I'm going to export three versions of the final cut: a ProRes 4444 master at 4K for archiving, a 1080p H.264 version for the client's review, and an MXF file with DNxHD codec for the broadcast delivery. I'll also export an AAF for the sound team and an XML for the online conform."
