Post-Production Producer

Definition

The Post-Production Producer is the primary point of contact for the studio or network, responsible for delivering the finished project within the designated budget and schedule. Unlike the Post-Production Supervisor who focuses on the day-to-day technical workflow, the Post-Production Producer focuses on the high-level financial, contractual, and creative delivery of the project. They negotiate contracts with post-production facilities (sound houses, VFX vendors, color grading suites), manage the overall post-production budget, and ensure that all deliverables meet the legal and technical requirements of the distributor.

Contextual Usage

The showrunner turns to the Post-Production Producer during a budget meeting: "We want to add ten more VFX shots to the finale, but we're already tight on the budget. Can you review the current spend with the VFX vendor and see if we can negotiate a package deal for the additional shots without pushing our delivery date?"
