An Edit Decision List (EDL) is a text-based file that contains a list of all the edit decisions made in a non-linear editing system, expressed as timecode values. Each line of an EDL specifies a single edit event, including the source tape or file, the in and out points of the source clip, and the in and out points of the edit on the timeline. EDLs are used to transfer a project from one editing system to another, or to conform the offline edit to the original high-resolution media in an online editing system.
The editor exports the EDL and sends it to the online facility with the note: "This EDL was generated from Avid Media Composer. Please use the CMX 3600 format for the conform. All timecodes are based on the original camera roll timecodes."
