Ingest is the process of transferring digital media from the camera's recording media (memory cards, hard drives, or tape) into the post-production system for editing and processing. During ingest, the media is typically copied to multiple redundant storage locations (to protect against data loss), and the files may be transcoded into a more edit-friendly format (such as ProRes or DNxHD).
