A Second Unit is a separate, smaller film crew that operates simultaneously with the main unit (or separately at a different time or location) to capture footage that does not require the presence of the principal cast. Second unit footage typically includes establishing shots, inserts (close-ups of objects or hands), action sequences, stunts, and location photography. This allows the main unit to focus on the more complex scenes with the lead actors.
The production schedule shows that while the main unit is filming interior scenes at the studio, the second unit will be in New York capturing establishing shots of the city and the exterior of the building used as the protagonist's office.
