The Script Supervisor (sometimes called the "continuity supervisor") is responsible for maintaining the continuity of the production — ensuring that the details of every shot (actor positions, costumes, props, lighting) are consistent from take to take and from shot to shot, so that the footage can be cut together seamlessly in post-production. The Script Supervisor also keeps detailed notes on every take, recording the director's preferences and any issues that arose.
Between takes, the Script Supervisor approaches the director: "In the last take, the actor picked up the coffee cup with their right hand. In the close-up, they need to pick it up with their right hand as well, or we won't be able to cut between the two shots."
