Silo

Definition

In an organizational context, a Silo refers to a team, department, or system that operates in isolation from the rest of the organization, with limited communication, collaboration, or information sharing. In creative operations, silos between the creative team, the marketing team, and the production team can lead to duplicated effort, inconsistent messaging, and inefficient workflows. Breaking down silos is a common goal of creative operations initiatives.

Contextual Usage

The Chief Marketing Officer identifies a silo problem: "Our design team and our copywriting team are working in complete silos. The designers are creating visuals without any input from the copywriters, and the copywriters are writing copy without seeing the visual direction. We need to integrate these two teams much more closely so that the visual and verbal elements of our campaigns are developed together."
