Cross-Functional Team

Definition

A Cross-Functional Team is a group of people with different functional expertise — such as marketing, design, technology, legal, and finance — who work together toward a common goal. Cross-functional teams are used in creative operations to ensure that all the necessary perspectives and skills are represented in the development of a campaign or project, and to break down the silos that can prevent effective collaboration between departments.

Contextual Usage

The Chief Marketing Officer announces the formation of a new cross-functional team: "I'm forming a cross-functional team to develop our new product launch campaign. The team will include representatives from marketing, creative, product, sales, and customer success. By bringing all these perspectives together from the start, we'll ensure that the campaign is strategically sound, creatively excellent, commercially viable, and operationally feasible."
