Political Media Group Tracking and Producing Content

Company Situation

The company works with a political organization focused on moderate issues, tracking public figures, candidates, and topics relevant to ongoing political discourse. Their team includes archivists and producers who manage and create media content such as news clips, stock photos, and animations that support media campaigns, social media, and advertising. They are building out their post-production workflows from the ground up as the team grows.

Existing Workflow

Currently, the company uses services like Critical Mention to capture news clips and other media relevant to their tracked figures and topics. These clips are stored to create an internal searchable library of transcripts, tagged by candidate, topic, and other metadata. Producers and editors need to access this archive to write scripts and produce content, which is then edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. The company is evaluating a combination of LucidLink, on-premises NAS, and Iconik to manage storage, access, and collaboration.

Issues with the Existing Workflow

The main archivist is not technically experienced, making complex tools difficult to manage. Iconik’s pricing is not transparent or competitive, and the user experience is not intuitive. Managing multiple tools for hosting, streaming, accessing, labeling, and sharing content creates operational overhead and complexity. The need for seamless integration with post-production tools like Premiere Pro is critical. Scalability and ease of onboarding new users, including external collaborators, are concerns. Maintaining multiple licenses and managing contractors/freelancers across various platforms adds complexity.

How Shade Would Change Their Workflow

Shade consolidates the key creative workflows—search, access, share, and archive—into a single platform, eliminating the need for multiple tools. Shade’s automatic indexing and customizable metadata extraction (including transcripts and facial recognition) streamline content organization. The platform allows media to live seamlessly on existing storage while being accessible as if mounted like a local drive. Sharing with internal and external collaborators is simplified through guest links without incurring additional charges. Shade’s transparent pricing and ease of use reduce IT overhead and facilitate smoother onboarding for non-technical users. Integration with editing software like Premiere Pro is straightforward, enabling producers and editors to efficiently access and download media assets.
