About Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers
The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) is an inclusive, non-profit, artist-run center for independent filmmakers located in Calgary (Mohkinstsis), Alberta. Founded in 1978 by a collective of twelve filmmakers, CSIF exists to fuel filmmakers, support storytellers, and connect the cinematic community. The society provides low-cost access to filmmaking workshops, rental equipment, post-production facilities, mentorship, and programming. CSIF focuses on production, exhibition, and providing resources such as workshops and information sharing, helping its members excel in the Canadian independent film industry. It operates on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. CSIF members have access to a wide range of gear discounted from commercial rates, including digital, 16mm, and Super 8mm cameras, lenses, lighting, grip, and sound equipment. They also offer various post-production facilities like edit suites, an optical printer, and a flex space for screenings.
